Brown coal deposits surveys for the mine

In August 2024, our company’s employees surveyed lignite deposits at the request of a mine in Lubuskie voivodship. Our specialists conducted gravimetric tests and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT). The research confirmed the probability of lignite deposits at various depths below ground level.

Gravimetry examines changes in the intensity of the Earth’s gravity caused by the inhomogeneous distribution of masses. To put it simply, it examines the density of rocks. On the other hand, electrical resistivity tomography involves measuring the variation in the electrical properties of the medium, which is related to the inhomogeneity of the rock medium. In other words, it measures the electrical resistance of rock layers. The combination of these two research methods allows for a more accurate determination of the probability of the occurrence of deposits in the designated area.

Our geo-engineers use precise and repeatedly proven equipment (gravimeters, tachymeters, transmitters, and data acquisition systems) for such tests. The measurements taken in the field and the data collected in September 2024 were processed and interpreted by dedicated software.  We have received the results, which will be forwarded to our client containing detailed descriptions, graphs, and appropriately mapped areas.

The search for coal deposits was successful. Thanks to confirmation of their presence, the mine will be able to start open-pit and mining work soon.
