Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Investigation in Salt Mine

Subject: Determination of the extent and location of possible voids under the concrete slab and the bottom edge of process water tank in a Salt Mine.
GPR investigations in a Salt Mine in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship – Poland

The aim of the study was to determine the extent and location of possible voids under the concrete slab and the bottom edge of process water tank in a Salt Mine. During the investigation, water has been pumped out from the tank making possible to perform measurements of undisturbed water layer. At the bottom of the tank remained sludge layer having a thickness from about 40 to 60 cm. Investigation was performed in parallel lines, with two frequency ranges of antennas (600 and 1600 MHz for each line) in order to provide good resolution at the slab surface. Profiles were located about 0.5 m from each other. Interpreted GPR data outlined structure of the upper layers of the subsoil and identified changes to a depth of about 2.0 m below the test surface and about 2.5 m for profiles on tank edges.
