Seismic survey of the Kościuszko Mound
Today we had the unique opportunity to carry out a seismic survey of the Kościuszko Mound. The measurements were performed with a custom-built impact source (AWD) (especially for this task due to the narrow path along the mound) and a network of Stryde seismic sensors distributed around the mound.
The Kościuszko Mound is one of the most important national monuments in Poland. It was built in the 19th century in honor of Tadeusz Kościuszko — a national hero of Poland and the United States, a military engineer, and a symbol of the struggle for freedom, independence, and civic values.
What makes today’s work even more special is the location itself. The mound stands right next to the headquarters of RMF FM, near Paul McCartney Square, blending Polish history, modern science, media, and global culture in one remarkable place.
It’s inspiring to apply advanced geophysical techniques to study and help preserve a monument that carries such deep historical and symbolic meaning — right in the heart of Kraków.
